Take note of the following at Stockholm Arlanda Airport:

Stockholm Arlanda Airport is not only Sweden's biggest airport, it's also a nice place to land between flights. The airport is Scandinavian in design, with brightly lit open spaces and lots of natural light and an amazing selection of restaurants, cafes, shopping and nice lounges. The airport's restaurants and shops are clustered at Terminal 5 and SkyCity, enabling visitors to explore without the hassle of running around the airport.

Layover & Connection Tips

  • Airside, T4 and T5 are linked via SkyCity enabling passengers to transfer without exiting the secure area. The walk between the two generally takes about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on your departure gate.
  • Allow extra time during busy departure times in the morning and the late afternoon for international connections involving passport control. The busiest flights from Terminal 5 tend to be non-Schengen ones.
  • If there is a lounge, it may be worth getting there a little sooner. Runway views, showers and quiet seats before take-off are great attributes of several lounges in Terminal 5, which also serve up Scandinavian cuisine.
  • It is advisable for travellers to check if they need a Schengen transit and/or entry visa for Sweden. The official data on immigration is found in the Swedish Migration Agency: https://www.migrationsverket.se.
  • Wi-Fi is free in all areas of Stockholm Arlanda airport. The free connection can be used to browse the web, send messages and check flight information; it makes it easy to stay in touch while you're in your layover.
  • If checked baggage is booked separately to your ticket, you might have to pick them up again and go through the check-in process once more. Check with your airline before travelling about bag transfer services.
  • Download your airline's app before coming out on the plane. Gate changes can happen from time to time, especially in Terminal 5 and app alerts are quicker than terminal display alerts.
  • Typically, a domestic-to-international connection takes at least 90 minutes and an international-to-international transfer is more relaxed with 90/120 minutes (add time for passport control if applicable).
  • If you're spending an extended layover, SkyCity is a worthy place to visit. It is situated between Terminals 4 and 5, prior to security, and is one of the funniest public areas on the airport, with lots of cafés, restaurants, hotels and retail outlets.
  • The spacious seating areas, family facilities and the relatively simple layout of the terminal at the airport will be appreciated by families travelling with children. The walkability in general is not too far when compared with many major European hubs.
  • If a passenger requires reduction in mobility he/she should contact the carrier to arrange assistance at least 48 hours in advance. Wheelchair services, accessible lifts and a dedicated assistance team is available throughout the airport.
  • If you have a layover longer than 5 hours and fulfil the entry requirements for Sweden, the Arlanda Express arrives at Stockholm Central Station in about 18 minutes, allowing you to have a short city visit without any problems before you depart for your next flight.
